TV producers face heat over child labour in Mumbai

Child labour is a crime and the Reel life has not accepted the Real life.

TV producers face heat over child labour in Mumbai

MUMBAI: It's quite a filmy coincidence. Producers of eight TV serials currently being aired on Zee, NDTV Imagine, Colors and 9X, will be dragged to court for violating the Child Labour Act on International Child Labour Day which falls on Friday.

A decision to this effect was taken by the labour department, said minister Nawab Malik on Thursday.

We have given our consent to initiate legal proceedings against the producers who have hired child artists but have failed to comply with the norms, the minister said.

Stating that a child below 14 years of age who gets a remuneration has to furnish details to the department, labour secretary Kavita Gupta said, "A notice was served to the erring producers. They failed to reply within 15 days.''
