LOHARDAGA: Tulika Kumari, a class IX student of MB DAV Public School here has been selected to participate in the 27th Sub-Junior National Taekwondo Championship to be held in Visakhapatnam from July 12. 

Tulika will be a part of the Jharkhand team in this national championship. She made her way into the state team after performing outstandingly well at a selection camp held at Dhanbad recently. She has been selected in the heavy belt category. 

Tulika is the daughter of Sanjay Kumar, a teacher, who offers free service in a private school located in a rural area. 

An Indian Air Force aspirant, Tulika is good in her studies as well. She has participated in two national championships in 2007 and 2008 but failed to win any medal. 

Tulika bagged eight gold medals in the state-level taekwondo championship. The state government had offered her a reward of Rs 36000 in 2007 for her performance in the 25th Sub-Junior National Taekwondo Championship. 

Tulika attributes her success to district superintendent of police Subodh Prasad, who is also the president of the Lohardaga District Taekwondo Association. 

Secretary Ajay Kumar Mahto said that Prasad has aspired many youths by organizing two state-level taekwondo championships in Lohardaga. He said that a total of eight players Madan Tirkey, Aman Tirkey, Komal Kumari, Ankit Ashish, Vishnu Oraon, Shiv Oraon, Adarsh Raj and Tulika had taken part in the selection camp held in Dhanbad.
